Acceptance of meeting minutes from November 13, 2019

 

Officer’s Reports

Vice President

  • You are the union – Executive Council is the first point of contact, they report information back to building
    • Newsletter coming each month
  • Suggest holding 10 minute meetings to get our faces out there
    • Before or after Faculty meetings would be good time

 

Secretary

  • Longevity list for each school’s bulletin board – updated on website

 

Treasurer

  • Budget update
  • Paid $39,872.64 to MTA
  • HIRD – Health Insurance Responsibility Disclosure
    • Stipended CTA members will be taxed 0.02% of wages

 

Membership

  • Nothing to report

 

Unit E

  • Members unhappy about being pulled to Substitute
    • Updated form for EAs to complete when they “lead teach” during a day where classroom teacher is out to receive compensation
  • PD “Choices”

 

Committee Reports

 

Mentor Steering

  • Experienced out of district hires do not need mentors if completed elsewhere
    • May need some training to acclimate to Canton, as a separate track than inexperienced teachers
    • Veteran teachers are “expected” to provide guidance without compensation

 

Scholarship

  • Donations accepted anytime

 

NCTA

  • Spring courses are released

 

Old Business

  • Course reimbursement/graduate credit update
    • About $40,000 left in fund
    • Forms should be out this week
    • Looking for academic rigor, discourse involved, within licensure
    • Submit syllabus with application
      • If primary designee declines course, appeal goes to a committee, then to a final designee
    • 30 days to submit paperwork when complete, within 30 days after that you receive reimbursement
  • Paper Contract update
    • Eval procedure, 1 year contract, new contract, updated stipends merged
    • Final copy sent to lawyer on Monday, 12/9
    • Paper copies next week
  • Prep time
    • Inequities
    • Using for meetings/trainings for ELA = missed prep
  • Team Leaders
    • Mandatory but not for all Unit A members
    • Cross grade-level teams so missed preps are unavoidable
    • Regroup JFK?
    • Meet on Half Days rather than being pulled out?
  • Early Adopters
    • JFK – Reading/Math Specialist can be “booked” for consults
      • NO RTI TIME
  • Pests update
    • No reports
    • Exterminator visited Luce on Monday, 12/9
    • Form to track mice sightings data
      • Take time stamped photos to document sightings – send to building Principal and Brian Lynch
  • Lights
    • Can turn on lights earlier
    • Request to add funds for additional lighting to FY ‘22 Budget
  • Power outages
    • Eversource, not in our control
  • Phone outages
    • Verizon, not in our control
    • JFK make-up day has not been solved
  • Lockdown drill at CHS
    • Planned to be more intense
    • Not held due to concerns about anxiety in students and staff
    • Teachers not taking it seriously
    • SROs should have a more active role in training

    • Can we see it?

  • Proposed PreK-5 Humanities Coordinator
    • Needs approval from School Committee
    • Would handle ELA and Social Studies curriculum
