MARCH 24, 2020
Good afternoon everyone.
We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy! Please know that you can reach out at anytime with any questions and concerns and I will do my best to get back to you within 24-48 hours. If you have a colleague who is in our union but not receiving messages, please have them reach out to our secretary, Justin Martin at cantonteacherssecretary@
After heavy negotiating, our MOA for the school closure through April 6th is signed and we will be paid for the duration. Expectations were emailed by the district. If the closure is extended, we will revisit the MOA with School Committee. Please keep in mind with the exception of AP courses, we are not to be teaching new topics, and should be using this time to provide learning opportunities and maintain communication and connection with students (at least until April 6!). If you are unable to fulfill your duties, please be in touch with your supervisor.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility. Stay safe and healthy.
MARCH 19, 2020
We hope that you are staying safe and healthy on this rainy Thursday. We are working diligently and have been meeting with School Committee to discuss expectations of educators and staff members during this school closing. As of today, we are incredibly close to an agreement and hope to have information very soon. We are meeting again (virtually!) with School Committee tomorrow. For now, please plan to at least reach out to your students and families on/by Monday, March 23, 2020. If you are in need of a computer or training for Google Classroom or other online tools, please know that the district will be sending out information shortly.
If you are in need of any assistance, or have nay questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we are here for you!

Thanks for reaching out with questions already. We want to make sure we stay in communication and answer whatever we can.
I encourage you to make sure you reach out to your families and students in a non-academic way with well wishes and keep the connection with your classes going if you haven’t already. We will be discussing what we can be giving in terms of academics soon. Feel free to share online learning opportunities with your students as you see fit for now as well.
We are continuing to work with the district in terms of responsibilities of the educators and understand that we all have a variety of roles that we play in the classroom and have taken that into consideration.
I’ll update frequently, so keep the questions coming!
MARCH 17, 2020
Hi everyone, we hope that you and your families are safe and well. Thank you for being patient with us. We are negotiating over the impact of this closure and, while we believe that everyone will be paid as usual, we still haven’t completed negotiations. Most of our remaining negotiations are about if and how to work remotely.
MARCH 12, 2020
Hello CTA Members,
As you likely heard by now, Canton Public Schools are closed from March 13 through March 23, 2020. We are grateful that there has not yet been a confirmed case in Canton and that Jennifer Fischer-Mueller and each and every one of you have been working diligently to keep our schools safe. These are difficult times that may continue to be trying. Please know that we, the CTA with the support of MTA, are here for you. Yesterday, after discussion with our MTA Field Representative, Patty Willis and I met with Dr. Fischer-Mueller to discuss how to keep our students and teachers safe while school is in session. We also demanded to bargain over the impact of an extended school closure, should that be needed, and began that conversation. Now that a closure has been announced, we will work to meet with Dr. Fischer-Mueller and the School Committee so that we can bargain over the impact of this closure.
We will fight for to ensure that Unit A and Unit E members will be paid and held harmless given the current pandemic. We are here for you, and we are working hard to ensure that you will continue to be paid and continue to receive medical benefits.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, thoughts or concerns.
