New Contract
After meeting with Dr. D’Auria this week I have additional information for you.
Since we have a new contract that is effective for this year only and we begin the bargaining process for next year next month, we will not be printing a new contract.  The Memorandum of Agreement that outlines the contractual changes that take effect this year will be posted on our website within the next few days. Go to http://canton.massteacher.org and click on “members only”.
Longevity
If you received a longevity payment this past September, 2007, you do not need to fill out a “Change in Longevity” form for the additional longevity amount due you as a result of the new contract for this year.  For example: If you received a longevity payment in September, 2007 for 20 years of service in the amount of $1,100, you don’t need to fill out any forms. You will receive a check for $400 in November in order to bring the total for longevity due you to the new rate of $1500.
If you did not receive a longevity payment in September, 2007 but under the new contract you are now eligible for longevity effective this year, you must complete the “Change in Longevity” form effective for 2007-2008 and submit it to Ken Leon’s office by November 15.

Anyone who will be having a change in longevity status for next September, 2008 must submit the “Added Degree and Longevity” form to Ken Leon’s office by November 15. This is a second form that is for changes to take effect next September, 2008.  If you will be eligible for longevity for the first time or will be moving to the 20, 25, 30, or 35 year category next September, 2008, you should submit this second  form.  Even if you are not sure, you should submit a form to be sure you met the deadline and your status can be clarified after November 15.CYA

See your building Executive Council representative for questions regarding longevity eligibility.

If you have submitted the “Change in Longevity” form to be effective for this year and are denied longevity, contact your building PR&R representative right away.

Ad Hoc Committee on Evaluations
Under Article XII of the contract, administration has called the committee into existence. The committee consists of 4 members appointed by the Association and 4 members appointed by the School Committee.
We will need one member from each level plus one at-large.  One of our 4 reps will be a member of our negotiations committee.  We need 3 other members who are willing to serve on this committee and be prepared to advocate for teachers.  Dr. D’Auria has discussed the possibility of providing  professional time for those who serve.
Please contact me within the next few days if you are interested in serving on this important committee. Send me an email to cantonteachers@gmail.com
Innovative Curriculum and Instruction Institute
Dr. D’Auria and I discussed the process for applying for this program. I will be creating a “frequently asked questions” list  in order to aide in the application and implementation process. I need to know what questions you have about this program. Please submit your questions to me at cantonteachers@gmail.com
Article VII, Section H-5
A Memorandum of Agreement dated October 1, 2007 has been signed to extend language concerning the flexible schedule for certain special subject teachers at the elementary level.  This section of the 2005-07 contract had a “sunset” clause that expired on August 31, 2007.  Administration made a request to extend the language for this year and Executive Council voted to agree to the extension.
CTA Building meetings
