From negotiations:
To all members,
Our bargaining team met with the school committee from 6 to 8 pm. this
evening. All school committee members were present except for Robert Barker
who is on vacation. Superintendent John D'Auria was also present. The two
teams met at first without the SC attorney or our MTA rep. in the room. SC
chair John Bonnanzio expressed regret that his statements to the Canton
Citizen caused pain to the teachers and gave the impression that the SC and
the CTA are at odds. The CTA team accepted the sincerity of his statement to
us but asked Mr. Bonnazio to state this publicly in the Citizen. He agreed.
We also agreed with the Superintendent's suggestion of a joint statement to
the Citizen and Journal by the CTA and the SC.
On the matter of the contract, the SC while still offering 0% put forth
some creative ideas for possible settlement. The CTA team will meet later
this week to work other ideas to move the contract talks along. We will meet
with the SC to continue negotiations on Tuesday Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. We have
agreed with the SC that neither party will speak to the press about
negotiations for the time being.
Please see a separate e-mail message from the crisis committee regarding to
Aug. 23 SC meeting.
